Special Guests Announced for New Year Eve Shows at the Boulder Theater

New Year’s Eve Just Got Even Better

Yonder Mountain String Band returns to Boulder, Colorado for a 4-night New Year’s Eve affair at the beloved Boulder Theater December 30January 2. A Yonder Mountain tradition, these hometown shows are the icing on the yearly Yonder cake. As in years past, we are thrilled to announce an all-star line up of special guests to help us bring another one to a close, and celebrate the arrival of 2016.

On Wednesday, December 30th, we welcome the one and only Sam Bush to kick off the NYE run. Honorably called “the King of Newgrass”, Sam Bush is just hitting his stride as the best Mandolin player on the scene.  Sam is no stranger when it comes to sitting in with Yonder, whether it is in the mountains at Telluride Bluegrass, the sandy beaches at Strings & Sol, the main stage at Bonnaroo, or anywhere in between, the Yonder /Sam Bush combination is a force to be reckoned with. We’re honored to welcome him back to the Boulder Theater stage, and look forward to the moments of synergy between this mandolin legend and our very own mandolin master, Mr. Jacob Jolliff.

Recently named “Dobro Player of the Year” by the International Bluegrass Music Association, and dubbed the “Muhammed Ali of the dobro” Jerry Douglas is solely responsible for bending and redefining the sound of the instrument within the context of a myriad of genres. Jerry also has spent quality time with Yonder over the years, these moments created have been jaw-dropping.  We look forward to reuniting with Jerry on Friday, January 1st, as he tastefully blends in his dobro wizardry with complimentary licks and mind-bending solos.

It has been far too long since Yonder Mountain has connected with guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan.  Be prepared to be amazed.  Whether it’s bold reinventions of classical masterpieces or soulful explorations across genres, this man is bound to take you for a tuneful ride with his creative guitar approach. Stanley has performed in over 60 countries, on 6 continents, and has performed with every type of musician imaginable.  We look forward to seeing what we create with him on our final night of the run on<>
Saturday, January 2nd.

If you have heard of them before, then you already know this is arguably the best “two-for-one” show with a line-up filled to the brim with talent. For those of you who aren’t familiar, let us fill you in on why you’ll want to come early to our upcoming shows!

Henhouse Prowlers is composed of:

Ben Wright – Banjo and founder of Henhouse Prowlers

Dan Andree – Violin

Jon Goldfine – Bass Player/Vocalist and founder of Henhouse Prowlers

Aaron Dorfman – Guitarist

Todd Livingston – Dobro

Learn more about the band

“After 11 years of hard work and a relentless tour schedule, Chicago’s Henhouse Prowlers have gained a reputation for their highly original, tradition-inspired bluegrass built on a strong foundation of intricate harmonies and electrifying stage energy. The Henhouse Prowlers use traditional bluegrass as a base, and make it their own by providing a show that’s danceable throughout with uptempo drive and bouncing mid-tempo grooves, all while covering contemporary topics in a largely original repertoire. Their reverence for the forefathers of bluegrass is palpable as they push the music forward on their own path.”

Henhouse Prowlers – The Bluegrass Ambassadors of the U.S.

Also, besides being incredible talented and providing a great live show, HenHouse Prowlers have done some International travels on behalf of the our great nation! Since 2014 the Henhouse Prowlers have been working closely with the US State Department as ‘Bluegrass Ambassadors’.  The band has been to 11 countries so far and there are more on the horizon.  Three of the tours included 10 countries in both East and West Africa, as well as a two week stint in Russia in May of this year.  These excursions include performances and collaborations with local musicians as well as workshops on subjects ranging from the history of bluegrass, instruction on individual instrument and running a band as a business.

A Ben Wright recounts their travels to Africa, “A two week stint in Nigeria ended up with the band performing the African mega hit “Chop My Money” with Peter Okoye of P-Square.  Peter and his brother Paul are without question the biggest stars on the continent and it goes without saying that sharing the stage one of them was a mind-blowing experience.”   Check out the video below and article from pri.org:
